Why You Need To Start A Blog

March 4, 2017 0 Comments

So you want to start a blog, and you haven’t yet. OR…maybe you already have a blog but need a little pick me up. Well, regardless of the situation I believe a blog is a great way to connect with others online, share your knowledge, and even make money. Believe me when I say this…blogging is ADDICTING. It’s like a drug. I promise you’ll have a blast with it.

A little background. I FINALLY started this blog 3 months ago. I always had the curiosity of starting one of my own but never really thought it was legit. I didn’t think people could make a full-time income blogging, I mean that sounds crazy right?? I had a hard time believing that sitting at a computer every day just composing blog post and connecting with other bloggers online could generate you a full-time income or side money.. Now granted I haven’t made any money blogging BUT that is one of my goals.

Also, being a recent college grad and having not a single clue what I wanted to do with my life I needed to find something to fill my time instead of starring at the wall all day. I was becoming a full-time couch potato. So, one day I grabbed myself a big cup of coffee and put my big girl pants on and decided to get to work. I knew it would be something good for me because I am all about learning and trying new things. I mean what could have possibly gone wrong??? I obviously started this blog for fun and to basically use it as my personal journal to share my story.

But, regardless of the reason, you should do it, now. I’m serious. You won’t regret it. Here’s why.

Yeah, there are a lot of blogs online. But I can promise you there’s no blog out there that would be EXACTLY like yours. Sure, there are probably going to be some blogs that write about the same topic but there’s something different to be said by each one. You’re unique in your own ways. No two people are the same. Your blog will stand out from others in its own ways. There can never be too much said about one topic. There is always something new to learn and you can provide what someone else didn’t. Ultimately, whatever the reason may be for starting you have a story to tell. Everyone does. That’s a fact.

I can’t tell you how many blogs inspire me. Every blog inspires someone in some way, regardless. Maybe you believe that you are knowledgable in a certain area and would like to share it with others. You may have some post that you aren’t very fond of but that might not be true to someone who comes across it. Having a blog gives you the power to speak what is on your mind that you want to share and the world is waiting to hear it!

Blogging most definitely makes you a better person. I say that because blogging will obviously improve your writing skills. I know I was never the writer. In fact, I was awful. I hated writing but my views on it have changed since starting my blog. It will also improve your communication skills. You will start thinking more intentionally about who you are and who you want to become. It’s a great feeling!

Yes, you read that right. Blogging is actually pretty easy. The hardest part is getting it set up but once you have done that then it’s pretty much a cake walk from there. I use WordPress, which I have found to be difficult in the beginning with setting up but soon came to be pretty self explanatory. Then I purchased my domain from GoDaddy. I haven’t had any trouble with either one of those sites.

Being challenged is a great thing. It gets you out of your comfort zone. If we aren’t challenged then we stop growing and we never learn anything. Well, with blogging you are challenged every day. What makes blogging challenging is the management part. You have to come up with interesting ideas, interacting with readers and building a community around the blog. I find those to be awesome challenges. They force you to expand your knowledge and continue growing.

You don’t have to lie. There is no shame. Blogging can be a great source of income. As mentioned earlier I haven’t made any money blogging yet because I never put much time into it in the beginning. But reading other blogs that inspire me about how they made an income pushes me more and more every day to do the same. It’s not impossible but it won’t be easy. It will CHALLENGE you.

I encourage everyone who reads this to start a blog RIGHT NOW. Don’t make excuses for why you can’t. I know a million just came across your mind. To me blogging has helped me overcome many obstacles in my life. It provide me a way to express myself and share my knowledge with those who might have been on a similar path. Or to just share what my mind speaks. But again, beware when you start one…I’m not lying when I say it’s addicting.
